second post. still here though.

second post and they're still in the country...

well don't worry, we'll be gone soon enough. in fact it'll be in ten hours and twenty minutes from now that a gigantic metal cylinder propels us into the sky so that we may zoom over an ocean at a moderate height of, oh, thirty-five thousand feet or so. all so we can wake up in a land that only vaguely resembles the world we thought that we knew. yep, just your average day, tomorrow.

to be honest with you i'm not even sure what i'm doing blogging right now. it's almost three in the morning and we are not ready to go.
we had this very ambitious plan of doing a photo shoot of all of our stuff laid out in front of our bags and us alongside, getting ready. you know, making it look easy and calm. not at all at the last minute. nope. we've been ready for days. that's like saying that we get a full nights sleep before an early morning flight.

anyhow, like i said i'm not sure what i'm doing blogging right now because we ought to just finish packing.
next time i promise that we'll write from somewhere more interesting that my desk.

my first blog, the build up

Hi, this is our blog. Thanks for spending time with it. It is our digital us. Thanks for spending time with us, digitally.

We are here, in analog, preparing for our trip around the world! Yes folks, that's correct, around the world. But not in eighty days, rather one hundred and fifteen days. Not nearly enough time
to do the world justice, i know but we'd rather get a little taste than no taste at all.

We leave on january 31st, 2010 and won't be back until the end of may. We begin by boarding a flight with a one-way ticket to Bangkok, Thailand. From there we've got about two months to make our way through Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam and finally to Bali (and perhaps other places we don't know we want to go yet).
In Bali we begin the next leg of the journey by boarding another plane on another one-way ticket but this time to Istanbul, Turkey. We 'll spend a couple of weeks in Turkey, a couple in Greece and then we'll meander into Italy and see what the fuss is all about. Once we've discovered that we head to Spain for our final week or so abroad.
But the trip isn't quite over after Spain. We decided that we couldn't pass up the chance to book our flight home with a five day layover in New York.
Then we come home. and attempt to adequately answer the question that very few would actually have the time to hear out if answered, "how was your trip?"
We'll try from time to time to post some pictures and mention where we are in them in order that we can feed our digital lives with proof of an actual one, or is it the other way around? So, check this every day so you can follow us around the world and we'll do our best to keep in touch.
Much love, Brian and Ashlei
